charlottesville

As usual I wait to respond so I am not using raw emotion. I live 170 miles from Charlottesville Va.  I know people that went to UVA or have kids their now.  Eyewitness acounts do not match the news narrative.  Athletes had show up early to practice before school started and ended up locked in with their coaches Friday night.  The permit was for Saturday at noon.  Racists were yelling outside of a synagogue Friday night.  They had to leave out the back to avoid confrontation.

Saturday many groups invaded Charlottesville with agendas of their own.  I don’t know if they were paid.  But Charlottesville is pretty liberal and I can’t imagine them liking Nazis walking through town yelling anti semitic chants.  What do you think is going to happen when you do that?

My Father, 3 Uncles and some cousins went to WW2 to fight Japs and nazi’s.  My Father voted for Trump.  I asked him how he feels now and he can’t answer me.  He doesn’t associate the current events with fighting nazi’s in WW2.  I guess he thinks they are different Nazis.

Someone in his county had their house tagged. They were black in a mainly white senior community.  He has a black friend down the street.  Again he thinks it is isolated.  Stuff happens.

2016 brought on a lot of changes.  Trump can’t be blamed for all of it  These people have always been here.  Now for some reason they think they can come into the light and are not afraid.

I fail to see how they correlate confederate statues with nazis.  They were almost 70 yeara apart and don’t represent the same thing. Seems to me they are taking the confederate cause as a reason to show up and show their ass.  They claim to protect history.  There are over 200 confederate monuments in VA.  How many historical monuments to the native americans, hispanics, asians, and blacks are their in VA? Also how many statues of women historical figures.  Shouldn’t all of history be portrayed, not just the parts that agree with your narrative.

The Election and it effects on kids.

My clients are from the age of 5 to 18 for kids.  They come from all ethnic backgrounds and social economic status.  One little black girl asked me why Donald Trump didn’t like her.  She is 10.  A 16 year old white kid bragged that Trump was going to win big and everyone just better like it.  A 6 year old wanted to know why he got in trouble for grabbing a girl at school because Trump says they really like it.  A girl said she didn’t trust Hillary because she wasn’t good at email, because she was old like her grandma.  My Mexican client who was born here said several people yelled at him at school and told him they were going to build a wall and throw his ass out.  All of these children get in trouble for fighting and did before the election.  My sexual trauma clients are being triggered and they believe that Trump and Clinton are perps and are scared.  Many think they are fat when they aren’t fat.  My suggestion is to not have children watch the news if they aren’t old enough to vote.  We have three weeks left.  Save the children.

My clients ask me who I am voting for and I don’t tell them.  It isn’t my job to sway political opinions.  I just tell them to vote or have their parents vote.  Many of my chients are disabled and recieve services.  They worry about losing them. They already have anxiety problems.  Some are low IQ and can’t decern the rhetoric and fact check.  One was afraid that they were going to take him to jail and knock his door down looking for Mexicans and guns.  They already have issues with the police.

I have to walk the fine line between safety, knowledge and not swaying someones vote.

My advise to someone with mental issues, if you know who you are going to vote for don’t turn on the news or look at it on the internet and mute the commercials.  Don’t watch the next debate.

I can’t wait until November 9th 2016.  Let all of this be over.

More shootings

When is it going to end?  More untreated mental illness, societal ills and anger.  Some attacks are by terrorists, disgruntled people, racists, deranged, etc. Our government does nothing. They talk about declaring war on ISIS, asking for prayers, moments of silence, vigils, constant news coverage with opinions.  hashtags # blue livematter, #all lives matter, #blacklives matter.  Politicians chiming in on what they would do if they were in power.  The NRA declares better and more guns would solve the problem.  If police lives matter, you wouldn’t give guns to civilians that have repeating rounds.  If black lives matter, you wouldn’t call to hang president obama or call black people thugs.  If all lives matter, you wouldn’t dimish the deaths with an I’ll pray for you.  No one ever said only black lives matter.  We are acutely aware that black gangs kill each other.  The difference is- if Tyrone kills Damone in the street, Tyrone is apprehended and prosecuted.  No one mentions anything disparaging about Damones past or if he smoked a joint in 2014.  If Damone is shot by a white or a cop, they dig into his past to justify it.  They run his name through the mud.  They find every excuse, mental illness, feared for their life, etc for the shooter who may or may not go to trial. Thats what it is about accountability.  If I shoot someone, even in self defense, they should at least look into it.  Anyone can say I am afraid and I thought he had a gun.  Who can challenge it?  Dead men tell no tales.  When they don’t find a gun, oh they reached in their pocket.  I thought they were going for a gun.  There hands were up, well they reached for something and then put them up.  Cops have tasers, clubs, cars, and many weapons at their disposal.  Why is the gun the first choice to solve any problem?  I don’t think all lives matter, or we wouldn’t be so quick to choose a gun to solve a problem. I want my own hashtag.  #Anne for peace.

Guns again

I can just add to this post. charlottesville, Rep. Scalise,  Las Vegas, New York, Texas church, Walmart in Colorado. They are asking for prayers.  Really. Is that the best we can do?  Faith without works is dead. Prayer is worthless without action. Now the killers are white men from here. It doesn’t fit the narrative.  Walls won’t keep us safe.  We had a shooting of a cop in my town yesterday by a teen.  How does a teen get a gun?  We do have a mental health crisis in this country.  The cutting of insurance, medicaid, medicare, etc will make it worse.  People need treatment and treatment costs money. I can’t provide free treatment and keep my office open.  We need gun licensing and vetting like we do everything else.  Stop the chaos.  Stand up to the NRA.  Find out which congressmen have accepted large donations from the NRA.  Refuse to vote for them.

I haven’t posted about Orlando yet because I needed to process how I felt. My daughter was a member of the Gay Straight Alliance for Stetson University in Deland FL.  She had many gay friends that went to Orlando.

There is so much speculation as to why- was it ISIS, bigotry, hatred..

I have a gun.  I can pass a background check.  The FBI has never questioned me.  So why did he get a gun legally?  He can’t get on an airplane because of what he might do, but he can buy a gun.  I don’t see the logic in this.

I have grown up in the country where people had a lot of shot guns.  I live in a military town where people have rifles of all types.  What does a civilian need with an AK?  It could shoot thru a wall in an apartment complex and kill people several apartments down.

Our government just wants a moment of silence.  I don’t want to be silent.  I want to be loud, outraged, screaming.  Stop with the killing.  Just stop it.

The founding fathers had muskets with one round at a time when they wrote the second amendment.  Mass shootings weren’t an issue.

Why now?  Are we so depraved that we have to kill mass numbers of people?  It isn’t one race or creed anymore.

Aurora, Va tech, Tucson, Charleston, ghetto shootings, cops on people, people on cops, Sandy Hook, Orlando, Fort Hood.  When is enough enough?

Gun crime

Not a usual day at the office.  My client comes in. ” I got shot Tuesday” and holds up his shirt to show me a big bandage on his back.  He is 18.  He was riding a bike at 8 pm with a friend.  It was a drive by.  He saw 3 guys but can’t identify them.  Too dark, too fast, he was running.  The bullet just missed his spine.  He is having some PTSD symptoms.  I had the usual talk about choices and safety.  You go where your friends go. His Medicaid has ran out.  How is he going to pay his big medical bill?  He is on probation so he didn’t have a gun to protect himself.  What good would it have done two kids shooting each other like the ok corral?

What is the answer?  Black lives Matter.  Where is Al Sharpton and Jesse when they shoot each other?  Does it only hurt when the shooter is white?  Stop the madness.  I want to get off.

Super Tuesday not so super

I was watching the results of super Tuesday and kicking myself for doing it.  Everyone is claiming to be Americas choice and savior.  I noticed that my state; the state of Monroe, Jefferson, Washington, Madison, Wilson, Tyler, Taylor and Harrison picked Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. The Presidents who railed against political parties, gave woman suffrage, formed the constitution to separate church and state.  They created the Monroe Doctrine, the declaration of independence and the bill of rights.  This is what they have chosen to represent out state.

I hate to tell Donald Trump but my Irish great great Grandfather hid on a boat to come here from Ireland to keep from starving.  He didn’t have a passport or a visa.  He was treated like crap in New York and migrated to the mountains of VA to remain and impoverished laborer his whole life. He married a local woman and had 8 children, one was my great grandfather.  He was not a rapist or a drug dealer.

I have relatives that did Loftin Walton, Great Grandpa wiggington, Robert bohon, and a bishop.  Two died leaving widows and numerous children. That war was the worst in our nation and we still suffer from it.  I look at statues for the confederate dead with mixed feelings.  They fought for a cause that was wrong with slavery, but correct in terms of states rights. They fought for Virginia.

I remember tales of my mountain relatives working along side the negro trying to survive and they all helped each other.  They didn’t need food stamps and grew their own food and shared with others.

My Father, my uncle and my husband are veterans and gun owners.  We hardly are what you would call extremists, richies, bigots.  We don’t have to take our gun to chipotle or Walmart to show how patriotic we are to others.  Their service and actions show that, not a gun.  And by the way, Obama hasn’t come for them and never will.

My Grandpa Doyle was my favorite human being on earth.  He was a lifelong union democrat.  He would argue politics with his republican sons.  I grew up in a house where woman could speak their mind.  I was college educated and it was encouraged that I do so.  I remember taking my grandma to vote and we each voted for a separate candidate.  Everyone discussed points of view and got along.   My Grandpa had black people in his house when it wasn’t cool.  He worked for the rail road and thought Jim Crow laws were stupid as he had to separate the passengers when they left WV into VA.  He loved JFK and thought his death was the greatest tragedy of his life. He worked his ass off from a small child until he was 72 years old.  Yet, he didn’t begrudge people being poor and getting help.  He helped many of his poor relatives, his church without complaint.  He sent nephews and nieces to college. He died a man with money in the bank and his funeral at the age of 93 was standing room only.

I wish I could ask him about the candidates running for president and get his take on it.  I guess he would be a Hillary supporter since he is a Democrat.  Yet I am not sure he would like a woman president.  He would not like Donald Trump because he is a Yankee.  He tended to prefer people that worked hard, not behind desks.  He didn’t like racists.  He also told me his Mother died from having too many children.  He would have thought the crap about birth control was stupid.  He lost his mother when he was 12, when she and her 9th child died together.  He attributed too many kids to poverty.  He only had two children, because he didn’t want to lose my grandma to childbirth.  They were married 59 years.  He wouldn’t have liked candidates that were divorced.  That was a moral failing to him to not keep your wife happy and not to cherish her.  He read the Bible every day for 53 years.  He would not recognize who we call Christians today. I am quite sure he would be for immigration.  His Mother was part Cherokee. He was very family oriented.  He talked about Ireland fondly, even though he never went there.  It was a part of him.

He would not like all the debates with yelling and name calling.  Men act like gentleman.  He always wore a hat and tipped it to a lady.  He could get the point across without  being an asshole.  He never had a gun that I knew of, but I also know anyone that would have crossed him.  When the blacks moved into his neighborhood, he was the last white to move out.  He didn’t see why he had to move, just because some black folks moved in.  He made friends with them.  He eventually had to move because the neighborhood became dangerous.  He missed his house and called the owners every day until he died to check  on it.

I cannot vote for any of the Republican candidate right now.  They are too extreme for me. I don’t think walls will keep anyone out of our country.  I don’t think corporations are people and they aren’t a religion.  Gay people are not the enemy and big government interventions in my bedroom are not needed. I don’t want to hear someone’s religious testimony at a political rally. I don’t care about your religion to govern me.

Havoc the Holidays

I had a great Thanksgiving.  We met with family and friends and celebrated a new life coming Feb. 5 2016. Caroline Nancy Ball.

Nothing can ruin this.  We avoided black Friday chaos.  Kept the TV off. Watched Christmas movies and drank wine.

Then, I get the story of the Planned parenthood shooting.  Another crazy white dude with a gun.  The spin begins.  They lay blame on everything; planned parenthood for existing, lack of guns at planned parenthood, gods wrath, some even call him a protestor.  People call for gun control.  People call for more guns.  Wait a minute.  It is Thanksgiving, where we celebrate what we are thankful for and the Indians saving the pilgrims with food.

One thing I want to make clear.  The shooter, who I won’t glorify by naming, is not a protestor.  A protest is the march on Selma, holding a sign, writing a politician, a letter to the editor, signing a petition.  Proper protest is non violence. Proper protest is feeding the homeless in Fort Lauderdale and getting arrested.  Proper protest is picketing planned parenthood. Proper protest is praying in public where you are told not to.  Proper protest is not using a gun, taking hostages and using the media to enflame people.  The politicians that are praising this act are part of the problem.  How can you be prolife and advocate the killing of anyone?  You have a right to be against or for abortion and to scream your view at the top of your lungs.  You don’t have a right to kill people who disagree with you.

At least the holiday ended with the Patriots losing.
