Superbowl let down.

Old school vs. new school.  Defense wins championships.  Peyton wants to retire on top.  Cam needs to be humble.

Much drama played out.  50 hall of famers brought out on to the field.

When they had the first Superbowl I was 5.  I remember my Dad buying a color TV for the occasion.  My Mom had wanted a color tv for a long time and was mad that it took a football game to get one.  My Dad liked the superbowl with Joe Namath because he played for Alabama, his alma mater. The half time show was a college band.

Now at 55, it is a production with parties, special food, betting, sports bars, and some people getting special clothes.

I remember Joe Namath coming out on the field.  He looked old.  Then I remembered I am old, so he has to be at least 15 years older than me.  Some had to be shown on TV from their house.

Superbowl 100 I doubt I will see it.

Do they play football in heaven?

Havoc the Holidays

I had a great Thanksgiving.  We met with family and friends and celebrated a new life coming Feb. 5 2016. Caroline Nancy Ball.

Nothing can ruin this.  We avoided black Friday chaos.  Kept the TV off. Watched Christmas movies and drank wine.

Then, I get the story of the Planned parenthood shooting.  Another crazy white dude with a gun.  The spin begins.  They lay blame on everything; planned parenthood for existing, lack of guns at planned parenthood, gods wrath, some even call him a protestor.  People call for gun control.  People call for more guns.  Wait a minute.  It is Thanksgiving, where we celebrate what we are thankful for and the Indians saving the pilgrims with food.

One thing I want to make clear.  The shooter, who I won’t glorify by naming, is not a protestor.  A protest is the march on Selma, holding a sign, writing a politician, a letter to the editor, signing a petition.  Proper protest is non violence. Proper protest is feeding the homeless in Fort Lauderdale and getting arrested.  Proper protest is picketing planned parenthood. Proper protest is praying in public where you are told not to.  Proper protest is not using a gun, taking hostages and using the media to enflame people.  The politicians that are praising this act are part of the problem.  How can you be prolife and advocate the killing of anyone?  You have a right to be against or for abortion and to scream your view at the top of your lungs.  You don’t have a right to kill people who disagree with you.

At least the holiday ended with the Patriots losing.

Football season is among us!!

I used to really enjoy football as a kid.  It was bonding time with Dad. The game was simple and pure. No scandals and you could look up at the players.  You picked a team and studied the players.  On game day you routed and cheered win or lose. On Friday night you went to the game and then to Burger King afterwards to continue to trash talk.

Now they have large security at high school football games.  You can’t walk the sidelines anymore.  You have to have your purse searched.

The role models are now getting arrested for rape, murder, theft, gun charges, drugs.  The colleges are giving date rape a pass if it is a football player.  Your tuition money goes for a big stadium.  Coaches in college are paid millions.

They have taken the fun out of the game now.  Wearing your team colors can start a fight.  Money is wagered on a game making it a real big deal if you lose.

Entitlement mentality.  One player actually was upset that he had to go to class.  He thought he was just there to play football.  Doesn’t academic eligibility mean anything anymore?  You are enrolled in college and will get a debt free college education.  You should be grateful for the privilege to represent your school.

If you play in the NFL you should be proud that you make more in one year than most will make in a lifetime.  Yet you squander it on drugs, beat your wife, fight dogs, run around with guns, like you still live in the hood.  When much is given, much is expected.

The colleges and the NFL need to have a zero tolerance policy for thug behavior.  You fail a drug test you are off the team.  You get arrested you can’t play until you are acquitted.  Rape on campus needs to taken seriously.  Most girls do not make it up.  Plus the players need to not be drinking and carrying on.  They are in training for a sport.  Don’t put yourself in situations that can lead to accusations.  You are being watched.  You are on a scholarship representing your school.  Don’t be stupid.  You get paid millions to play football, you can’t wait ten years to smoke pot and act like a fool.

I want to enjoy the sport of football again.  I don’t want to see my favorite player in the news with a murder charge.  I don’t want to watch ESPN about deflated balls, inflated egos, and cheating.
